Important scientific poll for cat owners

Last night, I was singing to Jaz, and it occured to me that some people might sing quite different songs to their cats, and others might not sing to their cats at all.

So, in the interests of collecting scientific data, I have created the following poll.

Please fill it out if you live with cats, regardless of whether they belong to you.

Poll #6349 cat songs

I don't have a cat right now, but I used to sing songs to both of mine. It didn't have any lyrical content, and I suspect it resembled what has been labelled my "happy top song" consisting of much doobedoobedoo.

I should say, the cat's contribution was their interpretative dance which was facilitated by me propping them up on their back paws and/or waving their front paws around in time.

Awww!

I do not sing to my cats. But I do sing along with iTunes when I am happy (folk song type stuff, mostly) and they like that a lot.

My sister sings to her cats. And dances with them. She reports that they are quite tolerant.

I sing to Kenobi but mostly dancing music because he gets excited when I sing and comes over to dance with me.

I also cuddle him and tell him stories about how wonderful he is.
foxfirefey: Fox stealing an egg. (mischief)

I answered on the basis that I used to have cats and used to sing to them!

I sang about one cat's fatness, I recall, in a beautiful song called "Big Fat Pussycat, Fat as the Moon".

What fascinates me is that if I'm listening to recorded music and start to sing along even quietly, the cats, who have been completely ignoring the recorded music, pay lots of attention to me. I am a bit unclear on why I'm such a different source of sound.

The cats will very rarely react to recorded sound, usually only fairly realistic cat noises, whereupon they will hunt around for the intruder and/or poor helpless kitten (in a blackadder episode).

I also sing about my cat's hunting prowess, and occasionally the internal organs I find strewn about the kitchen floor.

I have also made up songs about my cat's hunting prowess! I remember making one up during high school, and I still recall the lyrics and melody. lol I liked that song.

My songs usually sound something like musicals or Neil Innes's work for children. I have also used the Choccy song as a base for a song about Charlie's love-ability.

Dora sort of likes my singing, which doesn't say much for her ear. She also likes the piano. I don't sing to her about her fluffiness, but I tell her about it rather a lot. One time I said to her "I think we need to have a serious talk about how fluffy you are" and then realized my ability to relate normally to life and other human beings had been compromised by my cat.

One of my favourites is--to the tune of 'Alouette'--

"You're a moo-cat,
You're a little moo-cat.
You're a moo-cat,
With your little EARS.
Moo-cat with your little EARS?
Moo-cat with your little EARS!
Little EARS?
Little EARS!
Little EARS?
Little EARS!
Little EARS?
Little EARS!
Yep yep yep yep..."

(Repeat with all other parts of cat as necessary...)

I am not on dreamwidth but I totally sing to my cat. Sometimes it's "my funny valentine" with embarrassing made up cat-themed lyrics. Oh, the humanity.

I'll try the open ID thing. I just noticed that. I've never used it.
